FAQ
My kid never smiles for the camera. How will you get a good shot?
I specialize in unconventional portraiture. I have 3 kids who all seem to have "Photographer's Child Syndrome" meaning that they always put on their best silly face and awkward pose. My solution? I'm patient and just as silly. I let them do their thing, and when they breathe, and smile naturally with pride in between the antics, I'm there waiting, ready to click the shutter in that fleeting moment. The best portraits of kids are in the moments between the poses. That's where the authenticity is. That's where their personality really shines. That's how I get The Shot. Every. Time.
I am really shy and awkward on camera..
NO WORRIES! Just about everyone feels awkward in front of a professional camera! (Me included) My job is to help you relax and have a good time. We'll play music, joke around, and have fun until you forget the camera is even there. I will guide you through your most flattering poses and find your best angles to make sure that you are in love with your finished images.
My yearbook deadline is this week!!! Can you deliver my images in time?
I completely understand last minute deadlines. Life happens and time gets away from us all. My usual delivery is within 3 weeks, but if you're in a pinch, just let me know! We can rush your gallery preview so that you can choose your yearbook image. I'll make that one image a priority so you can submit it in time.
Can I bring a friend to my senior session?
Absolutely! I love a photoshoot party! Bring someone who will help calm your nerves, make you laugh, and remind you that you're a rockstar. Most importantly, make sure it is someone you feel comfortable being yourself in front of. Keep in mind though, too many distractions can upset the flow of a session, so I may ask your friend or parent for a little space if they're pulling your attention away.
Can I ADD a friend to my senior session?
I love combining sessions! You can add your bestie or your other half[] to your Classic or Ultimate senior session for a small fee, and share the gallery of finished images. You are always welcome to add more images during your gallery preview as well. If you only want a Mini Session, you are welcome to book your mini session back to back with theirs, and both hang out for both sessions. I'll be happy to make sure there's at least one shot of you both.
Where do you shoot?
Titlow Park is my favorite, but I'll shoot anywhere you want within Tacoma. There are lots of great spots that offer urban, beach, nature, sports, artsy, etc.. any vibe you want. The only place I'll never shoot is on railroad tracks. Safety is my number one priority. I am happy to travel outside of Tacoma as well for a distance appropriate fee.
What do I wear?
Ultimately, wear what you feel best in. I will say though that graphics, logos, bright & neon colors and large bows/accessories are really distracting in photos. We want to make sure that you are the star of the show. I usually recommend coordinating colors, textures and patterns that roughly follow a monochromatic complement to your eyes, complexion and/or background. If you would like help choosing colors, coordinating the kids' outfits, or any other suggestions, I'm here to help!
How many outfit and location changes do I get?
That depends.. If you booked a mini session, then for the sake of time, we should stick to one location and one outfit. If you want to swap jackets, that's fine, but anything more than that will cut into the time that I need to deliver a complete gallery. If you have booked a longer session, then it is up to you how you want to spend your time. We can swap locations once, and swap outfits too, just keep in mind that my goal is to deliver you a full gallery of images that you love. If you are feeling rushed, it will show in your images. You are also always welcome to add time to your session if you want to relocate or change at your own pace. Let's just make sure that we plan ahead so that we don't lose light or run into another session.
Can I extend the session on the day of?
Absolutely! I want to make sure you have the best session. Unless there is a scheduling conflict right after your session, I will shoot as long as the light lingers. Session extensions cost $25 per 15 minutes.
What about the weather?
Here in the PNW, rain happens. I pay very close attention to the forecast, and am more than happy to reschedule you session asap if the weather won't cooperate. Hey, I love golden hour just as much as you! However, I can shoot in the rain if you want me to. Keep in mind, that retouching frizzy hair, mud and rain spots on clothes are not included in my standard packages.
When do I get my images?
I strive to deliver a sneak peek within 48 hours. I'll have your gallery culled and pre-edited within a week for you to pick your images. The final gallery will be delivered within two weeks of you submitting your final image choices.
Do I have to order prints through you?
Not at all! You have the freedom to print however you want. I will say though that my computer is color calibrated to work with my print company. If you order through a consumer lab, there is a good chance that your prints will have a green, gray or magenta color tint, depending on the lab you choose. If you don't want to order through me, I highly recommend mpix.com. They are the best consumer lab on the market, and their color profiles are really spot on.
Why should I print through you?
I work with the best commercial lab in the country, that prints exclusively for professional photographers. My processing software is calibrated specifically with their color profiles, ensuring a perfect reproduction of your image. I offer wall art, press, albums, books, gifts and custom design services for all of it. I go over every image I print with a fine-toothed comb to make sure it is pristine before I deliver it. The heirloom quality of the paper, ink, processing and materials is guaranteed to last long enough for your great-grandchildren to tell your story in full vibrancy to their babies.
What kind of gear do you use?
I'm a Nikon girl, although I started with Canon. I prefer my Nikon lenses, but I do have my old Canon as a backup.
